Purpose: Demonstrate potential AR funding from summer program using fall after-school attendance data as simulation baseline.

Summary

Built interactive HTML dashboard projecting $45,065 in recoverable AR funding for Winters Joint USD based on fall 2024 after-school program attendance patterns. Deployed to https://winters-ar-projections.vercel.app

For: Nicole Jordan (Winters Joint USD) Impact: Quantified AR opportunity showing 64 students could recover average 9.82 days each; provides scaling projections (200 students at same rate = $140,554)

Data Pipeline

Processed attendance data through multi-step pipeline:

  1. Fetch & Process (fetch_and_process.py): Queried Metabase for Winters student attendance records from fall after-school programs
  2. Absence Integration (get_absences.py): Attempted to pull absence data from Aeries API (encountered technical limitations)
  3. Cap Application (apply_caps_and_finalize.py): Applied 10-day AR cap per student as conservative baseline
  4. Summary Generation (create_summary.py): Produced grade-level breakdown for Nicole

Output files:

  • winters_ar_final.csv - Full student-level data with caps applied
  • winters_ar_summary_for_nicole.csv - Grade-level summary for district review

Dashboard Features

Interactive HTML dashboard styled to match existing Attendly AR dashboard template:

  • Tab Navigation: Report view + “How It Works” educational guide explaining AR program, LCFF funding formula, compliance requirements
  • Hero Stats: Total funding, students served, days recovered, per-student average
  • Grade Breakdown Table: Detailed by grade band with funding calculations
  • Scaling Projections: Shows potential at 200 students (140,554 depending on attendance levels)
  • Assumptions Section: Documents methodology (10-day cap, 99.35 hours minimum, simulation baseline)
  • Responsive Design: Print-optimized, Attendly branding

LCFF Calculation Applied:

  • Base Grant: $10,408 per ADA
  • Supplemental Grant: +20% (for 65.96% UPP)
  • Concentration Grant: +30.94% (UPP > 55% threshold)
  • Effective Rate: $7,047.01 per ADA (reflecting state funding formula)

Technical Implementation

Dashboard built as single-file HTML with:

  • CSS custom properties for theming
  • JavaScript tab switching
  • SVG icons and Attendly logo integration
  • Alternating row colors, hover effects
  • Print stylesheet for PDF generation

Context

Winters wanted to understand AR funding potential before committing to summer program. Used existing after-school attendance data to simulate what a dedicated AR program could generate. Data represents students already attending non-AR programs—projection assumes similar attendance patterns in a formal AR summer session.

Key insight for Nicole: Current 64-student cohort shows strong attendance (9.82 days average). Scaling opportunity is significant—same attendance level with 200 students would 3x the funding.
