Modesto AR Funding Projections
Built comprehensive attendance recovery analysis for Modesto City Schools’ demo presentation. Analyzed 85,034 attendance records across their expanded learning programs to project $816,809 in recoverable LCFF funding.
The calculation required:
- Parsing three CSV files totaling 145,000+ records and filtering to expanded learning only
- Mapping program types to participation minutes: Before School (60min), ASES (180min), RISE programs (90min), Summer Extended (240min)
- Processing absence codes to count unique absence days per student (average 7.2 days across 2,843 students)
- Applying California LCFF funding formulas with Modesto’s 79.6% UPP across five grade bands (TK-K, 1-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12)
- Enforcing the 10-day annual cap per student (249 students hit the cap)
The projection breaks down to 98,579 in supplemental grants, and $99,013 in concentration grants from 9,585 recoverable ADA days.
ATT-2121
AR Audit Simulator Dashboard
Created an interactive Explo dashboard that walks districts through the 2025-26 state AR audit procedures. Built for the Modesto demo using Romoland data as proof-of-concept.
The dashboard implements all eight audit procedure sections (a through h) from the Annual Audit Guide:
- Charter school classroom-based enrollment verification
- Independent Study 15-day limitation check (queries aeries_students_mirror for attendance_program_code_primary = ‘I’)
- AR register separation verification
- Whole day ADA requirement compliance
- 10-day annual cap enforcement with absence-based limiting
- Grade-band minute thresholds (TK-K: 180min, 1-3: 230min, 4-6+: 240min)
- Participation time certification including staff ratios (10:1 for TK-K, 20:1 for others)
- Daily and weekly attendance limits (1 day per calendar day, 5 days per school week)
Built three supporting SQL queries handling JSONB array checks (using @> instead of ? for Metabase compatibility), daily/weekly cap enforcement, and bad data exclusion.

21st CCLC APR Federal Report Suite
Built five production SQL queries that automate all data requirements for Winters Joint USD’s federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers Annual Performance Report.
The queries cover:
- Grade level totals with ordinal labels (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) through 12th
- Attendance hour bands (six dosage levels from <15hrs to 270+hrs) pivoted by grade
- Race/ethnicity demographics using federal eight-category definitions with proper Hispanic/Latino precedence
- Sex demographics with nonbinary mapping to “Data not provided” per APR requirements
- Special populations: English learners (LanguageFluencyCode=‘L’), economically disadvantaged (FRE_status), disabilities (UserCode fields), and family members served (FamilyKey matching for siblings)
This required significant database architecture discovery. Winters’ Aeries uses non-standard race codes (Asian is 201-299 instead of 200, Black is 600 instead of 300) which I mapped to federal categories. The queries join across Attendly attendance data and Aeries SIS through the aeries_students_mirror table, filtering to only programs tagged “21st CCLC” (18 programs found).
Validated against Waggoner Elementary: 149 students, 92 Hispanic/Latino (62%), 32 English learners (21%), 77 economically disadvantaged (52%).

WJUSD ASSIST Report Updates
Updated Winters’ ASSIST compliance report based on monthly check-in feedback. Changes included:
- Renamed report to include “21st Century” in addition to ASES and ELO-P
- Separated Running Club from the Shirley Rominger report (Running Club is ELO-P only)
- Added distinct section for ELO-P-only programs including intersessions
- Added explanatory note clarifying that the report includes all ASES, 21st Century, and ELO-P programs except ELO-P-only programs which are counted separately
ATT-2118
Romoland AR Tag Investigation
Investigated why AR student tagging was failing. Found that getDependentsWithAtRiskTag() queries the school_attendance table, which has zero records. The attendance data exists in aeries_attendance_mirror (4,561 students with AR-qualifying absences) but the transformation function hasn’t run to populate school_attendance.
Quantified the impact: Of 1,289 enrolled students with AR-qualifying absences, only 24 (1.9%) have the “ar” tag. The 833 other tagged students are from previous academic years.
Created a transaction-wrapped UPDATE query that bypasses school_attendance and tags students directly from aeries_attendance_mirror. The query filters by current academic year (Aug 14 - Jun 11), only targets students without existing tags, and identified 9 anomalous future-dated records (Jan 12-13, 2026) during verification.

Explo Reporting Setup for SJCA and FSD
Completed full Explo integration for two new customer launches. For each district:
- Created customer in Explo
- Connected database
- Configured owner and staff customer accounts
- Updated constant.ts in front-end admin repo with new Explo customer and database connections
Both San Jose Charter Academy and Fruitvale School District now have district and site-level reporting dashboards available.

- Documented issues and solutions for Romoland attendance recovery (data pipeline problems, tagging failures, transformation gaps)
- Wrote implementation checklist describing tickets needed for AR rollout to new districts
Also finalized the memo on data model concerns and shortcomings for internal discussion.
